Gerrard Xie has concluded his debut season in FIA Formula 3
The proven champion showed promise and gained momentum throughout the season
His final event of the season included a 14 position climb in the Sprint Race
A determined FIA Formula 3 Championship rookie season came to a close for Gerrard Xie at the weekend, with the final round of the 2025 championship season held at Monza across September 5-7.
Xie came to FIA F3 – an important stepping stone to Formula 1 – as a proven champion, with 13 wins in Chinese F4 and victories in GB3 already under his belt.
Ready to take his racing career to the next level, Xie first rolled out with the highly regarded category aboard the #16 Hitech entry at Melbourne’s season-opener in March, ready to come to grips with the new F3 car and a new championship.
Over the following three months, he then travelled to Bahrain, Imola, Monaco, and Barcelona, with the final three events of those five run back-to-back to back in an intense triple header.
While a number of these events were held at tracks where he had no prior racing experience, he climbed a significant number of positions in nearly all of the races, even in poor weather conditions or when fighting tyre degradation or traffic.
Early examples of this included climbing nine positions to finish Australia’s Sprint Race in P16 and seven in the Feature Race to P18; and improving as much as 10 positions in Bahrain’s Sprint Race to be running as high as P17, before ultimately finishing P21.
Another key highlight of the opening half of the year was Xie’s time in Monaco – which saw the realisation of a dream which he had held since he was a small child. At this legendary circuit, he delivered a hard-charging race, including climbing nine positions in the Sprint Race.
Xie then headed to more familiar venues and steadily built momentum across the final five rounds of the 10-event calendar, which concluded with the weekend’s racing in Italy.
Again, he showed his ability to move up through the field, including a climb of seven and 12 positions respectively in Spielberg’s Sprint and Feature Races, and six in Spa’s Sprint Race, before a clear highlight of the second half of the season came in Hungary in August.
At this penultimate round of the season, all of Xie’s hard work and dedication across the preceding rounds culminated in two personal bests.
First, he qualified in a season-best 4th position from a highly competitive field of 30 entries, before going on to claim 10th position in the Sprint Race – his first top ten result, seeing him earn his first points of the championship.
In the final round across September 5-7, the racing at Monza saw Xie walk away with plenty to spur him on to 2026 after once again demonstrating his determination on the track, climbing 14 positions during the Sprint Race to finish in the top 15. However, he was ultimately unable to improve during the final race, and his season ended with a DNF after he was hit in the final race.
Xie hopes to confirm his plans for 2026 in the near future.

Formula 3 Driver, #16 Hitech
“My rookie FIA Formula 3 season was a great experience. I learned so much throughout the ten rounds, especially as many of the tracks were a new challenge for me. This year was a massive learning opportunity to get to know the car better, especially with the introduction of a brand-new F3 car at the same time I started the season. Every race presented a steep learning curve, but we consistently turned those challenges into lessons. Though I made some mistakes along the way, I'm glad to say we learned from every one.
I was also happy to make progressive improvement throughout the season, highlighted by a P4 qualifying result at Hungary last month as well as scoring my first championship point. Another big highlight was racing at the Monaco Grand Prix in May, which was a dream come true.
A huge thank you to my team at Hitech for their relentless support and guidance throughout the entire season. Thank you also to my parents, who have been by my side constantly and unconditionally. I wouldn’t have been able to achieve all that I did without either of them.
We will have to see what the future brings, but I will continue training and working hard to be ready for what's to come. My focus remains firmly on Formula One and I will give it everything to get there.”
